Indie, native, stray: Celebrate local pets this Republic Day

When you can go ‘vocal for local’ with fashion, food and travel choices, why not with pets? Ahead of Republic Day, we look at the local Indian dog breeds, as well as the reasons why they make for great pets!

Veterinarian Sharva Shah says, “Indie or native breeds are accustomed to the climate in India and can also survive on homemade Indian food. They have lesser health concerns.” Srinivas Jakkani, a dog behaviourist adds, “Adopting native breeds will also helps sustain them. The Rajapalayam breed almost went extinct in 2005, before becoming a popular pet.
