About the author:
Saba Dewan is a documentary film maker and author based in Gurgaon, India. Her work has focused on communalism, gender, sexuality and culture. Saba’s debut book Tawaifnama was supported by a fellowship from the New India Foundation and published in 2019 by Westland. The book has been widely reviewed and invited to several literary festivals across India. In March 2020 Saba won the prestigious AutHer Award 2020 for Non-Fiction for Tawaifnama.

The awards are a celebration of contributions of women authors who have, despite all the biases added value and creativity to this space. We acknowledge and award such women authors so that more and more women take up writing and pen that first story and feel proud of their accomplishment.
